Tubes: what are they?
Pipes are defined as mainly cylindrical (but not limited to) shaped ducts of different sizes and materials (single or composite), which serve to convey fluids, gases or solid materials. Their construction can be more or less complex.
How to choose the tubes?
First of all, the specific application must be taken into consideration, considering the conditions of use, the fluid to be transported, the necessary fittings and the requirements imposed by the regulations. The properties and limitations of the tube must also be kept in mind.
Why is it important to make a correct choice?
An incorrect choice of the tube can lead to alteration of the conveyed product, damage to things or people and damage or destruction of the tube itself.
What information should you give to the supplier?
There are some important information that must be reported to the supplier: the internal dimension of the duct section (usually circular, therefore the diameter); the thickness of the pipe wall (the thickness of the monolayer of which it is composed if it is a simple pipe, or, for pipes with articulated constructions, the sum of the substrate, reinforcements and cover). The length of the pipe is also a relevant data: each type of pipe can reach a maximum length.
As regards the product to be conveyed, the type and / or composition must be communicated in the case of oils, gases and fuels, the concentration in the case of chemical products and the (maximum, minimum) operating temperature.
Other important data to consider are the delivery pressure (the maximum operating pressure), the suction pressure (the maximum operating depression), the burst pressure (calculated by multiplying the maximum operating pressure by a safety factor).
In some applications it is also important to know the operating temperature of the environment in which the work will take place, the more constant atmospheric agents, contact with oil, grease, sea water or aggressive substances, any mechanical abrasion.
An important element in determining the duration of the flexible hose is the minimum bending radius: it is necessary to avoid forcing the bending of the hose.

To establish the correct time to replace a tube, it is necessary to regularly check its conditions of use. Regular maintenance helps you understand and determine hose replacement times.
